As an author, I was appalled when I learned about some books that had been banned. Best selling authors like Nora Roberts and Jodi Picoult were among the ones targeted. It makes me wonder: What happened to free speech? What kind of a dictatorship are we living under?
I know, firsthand, that kids are shaped by role models in their lives. A book isn’t going to change the core values that parents should be teaching their kids. I’d be more worried about the smut they’re picking up from TikTok. Besides, how many of us were more drawn to the things we were forbidden to have? It’s a part of life, we are curious beings.
But, you see, I’m one of those people who will buy a banned book and read it. It’s like when we were told, ‘No, you can’t see that movie because it’s rated R.’ What I’m trying to say is, we can’t control people like that. It will backfire. Kids will rebel.
